kapoetio

Kapoetio is an opensource abstract strategy game emulator with extensive customization features, allowing users to design unique board layouts with custom dimensions and shapes, as well as invent their own board pieces.

Kapoetio

This is a project of mine that I am working on sometimes in m free time. Kapoetio was originally a game I made when I was 10. It was an alternitive to chess as I didn’t like the rules of chess, and wanted to experiment and make it my own. These days Kapoetio has grown out to be so much more then I could have imagined.

[!IMPORTANT]
The current development status is: Pre-Alpha. This means that the game is not in a functional state yet.

Table of Contents

here are some topic that we will be discussing:

the Board

As mentioned before, the board can be any size, or shape. You can create one with holes, one that is round, or one where the players need to walk one half hour of gameplay to get to you. It is truely upto you in this regard.

The way you do this is by first creating a new board with your custom size. after you’ve done that you can select any (Tile)[#TILES] to make it usable or nor for the player. This way you give shape to the whole thing. you can then save your custom board, and teams to a .kapg file.

Tiles

the way the Board works is it is composed out of Tiles. which are squares with a checker pattern. They can be black, white, gray, or the color of one of your teams. When Black it means that the tile is not usable and you will not be able to, spawn, or move anything on them. They act as if they are not there. when white or gray, they are usable, but not claimed. placing a pawn on there that if property of a certain team will cause the tile to change color, since that team now owns that Tile until another team takes it.

Entities

The game would not be complete if you could not create and use your own pieces. I am working hard to create as many modules as I can to make sure that you can make your idea come to life. Onces you are done creating, or editing your pawn, you can save it to a .kape file to be using later, by you, or literally anyone else with kapoetio installed.

Custom Teams

As you might have guess, can you create as many teams as you would like, give them their own name, color, or the same if you want two teams, to form a team togethter.

Conclusion

Using the tools discussed above, you can litterally create your own board game, version of chess, or even a DnD map if you wanted to.
